Reception Children - Decoding

In Reception, we will be looking at how your child can link together symbols and sounds, known as decoding. Decoding is a very important part of early reading.

Children will work with one of the project team on two different days. On the first day, they will play a game on a computer where they learn some new symbols and the sounds that match them. They will then play games to ‘crack the code’ and blend the new symbols and sounds together.

On the second day, they will take part in some activities about vocabulary, letter sound knowledge and reading.

When your child is in Year 1, they will work once more with the project team to see how their reading has developed over a year.

In the task, children help Chompy Croc to crack a secret code!
